Whatever decision made, definitely wasn't Obama's or his alone. President Obama will go down in history as 1 of the most micromanaged presidents in history, while others were out of control, & we're "proudly" paying for their mistakes still. I know I'm personally paying for the mistakes of financial industry neglect, including before and immediately after 9/11.
Obama, unlike other leaders before him, is trusting his advisors & experts, which includes Pentagon experts. Obama is not a foreign policy expert, but Pentagon and other military leaders advising him are.
Then again, foreign policy experience of many presidents, including what's touted as experience has never really mattered as the adversaries we actually create by double-dealing always come back to bite us later. Insert Osama Bin Hidin history here. >:-\
But when so many people, ironically people who've never been to NYC or DC & hate both, proclaim Cheney kept us safe I always remember FBI, NYPD, Coast Guard & military leaders kept/keep us safe daily.
What didn't keep us safe was failed policies that began under Pres. Wilson, a Princeton grad. We're still uphill climbing from some of the worst foreign policy decisions ever, decisions which ironically came from *failed* education, & NOT reaching out to get all sides of an issue. Wilson's religion background was sort of "home schooling", he never actually studied the region he so loved, history of bible/origin of Christ or people in region he loved, which was evident by statements and decisions. Thus his uneducated ignorance leads all the way up to today's events, including 9/11.
As such we've mostly been playing "reactionary" foreign policy which has led to further problems. Sad that not one generation, in the history of colonies/United States since British defeated the Dutch, does not know war. Ironic that countries like Vietnam and Japan don't want war, or live to create future wars/conflicts. Both are focusing on their society first. While we've been in nonstop wars since war with both. That's something that should be micromanaged. :(
